Experimental works (Update 1)
(p/s: this is my first entry of english log, definitely i have a very poor command of english language. I even forget how i passed the essay writing tests during secondary school). However, i would like to try to write some short paragraphs here for the sakes of getting more people visit to this blog. In addition, possibly this is a good platform for me to practice my english, practices make perfect. Anyway, most of writings will orientate in the radiancy of my academic study)

Today is 13 June 2005. When i check the last year calendar just now, i found that i registered officially as a master student at 21 June 2005. Time and tide wait for no man.
These few months i work at a totally new environment, after time and time, i am getting adapted in this new environment, laboratory of microbiology. After working for 2 months, it is the time for me to reorganize my experimental works in order to get a clearer mind for further works.
Laboratory works had been done
(Some works will be repeated from time to time depend on the necessities)
I Preparation of materials and apparatus
1. Sampling and storage of wastewater (oxidation ponds)
2. Washing and sterilization of apparatus and medium
3. Preparation of medium
II Investigation of water quality of the wastewater
Sampling location: oxidation pond KTC, oxidation pond Desa Bakti
Sampling point: 8
Parameter determined: pH, turbidity, TSS, BOD, COD, total nitrogen, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, sulphate, ferrous iron
III Isolation of bacteria from wastewater
Medium: nutrient agar
Technique: 1. serial dilution inoculation
IV Screening of bacteria for nutrients removal
i. Screening of isolated pure culture in selective medium (nitrate, phosphate,
V Preparation of bioblock
Constituents: cement (ordinary Portland cement), small aggregates (laterite and
granite), sand, zeolite (natural zeolite, mordenite and synthetic zeolite, zeolite Y)
Size of aggregates: 2.8 to 5.6 mm
Size of sand: 150 μm to 2.8 mm
Procedures: 1. mould preparation
Bioblock has been prepared:
No. Code Aggregates Aggr. (kg) Sand (kg) Cement (kg) Water (kg)
1. BB-G1 Granite 0.855 0.285 0.120 0.084
2. BB-L1 Laterite 0.855 0.285 0.120 0.084
3. BB-L2 Laterite 0.735 0.285 0.240 0.168
4. BB-L3 Laterite 0.795 0.285 0.180 0.126
5. BB-L4 Laterite 0.825 0.285 0.150 0.105
Water to cement ratio = 0.70
Total weight of mixing components = 1.260 kg

What an amazing experiment with bioblock and agar-agar. While I can’t agree more that blogging is a major platform for me to learn and practise bahasa omputeh, I dare not claim that practices make perfect. Allah sahaja yang sempoerna di dunia dan aku cuma manusia
That’s a very nice blog you have here, keep up the good werk !~
